STEP 6:

Reflecting on the conflict

What does "A-OK" teach you?

So, you got through your conflict. . .

  • Congratulate yourself! You're OK. Things could be worse.

  • It probably didn’t go as planned but you did your best, good job. Be compassionate to yourself!

  • Be forgiving with your counterpart too. They probably tried their best too!

  • Conflicts can damage relationships but they can also build relationships and trust. But, you may need to set some new boundaries!

What can you learn?

1. Consult your conscience. Are you proud of how you acted and what you said? Did you live up to your highest potential? Did you make the world a better place? Were your actions right or wrong? Do you feel good or bad about what you said and how things worked out? If you have regrets, learn from them. You may have to go back and fix it them if necessary.

2. Learn about conflict. What went well? What could you do better next time? What do you need to know in case you have another conflict with your counterpart again?

3. Consider the big questions. How was this conflict important? What did it mean to you? How does it affect you? Now that you’ve gotten through it, what’s next for you?
